Relation between Artificial Intelligence and Hindu Astrology

What is Hindu Astrology?

Hindu Astrology is the traditional astrology among Hindus, it is also termed as ‘Vedic Astrology’ and ‘Jothishyam’ in Sanskrit.  It consists of connection between the phases of human life from birth to death and to star associated with the birth. There are many interpretations about how it was framed, in this blog I give my interpretation about the possible way of Hindu Astrology being framed, and how it is related to the present

artificial intelligence. It is just my thought and it has nothing to do with the theory behind the Hindu Astrology. This blog means no offense to the feelings of anyone.

Hindu Astrology predicts a person’s future given the conditions of his/her birth day, date and time.

What is Artificial Intelligence?

A system is said to be ‘artificial intelligent’, if it is capable of predicting the output of any system based on the given conditions. For example, the computer vision algorithms used for obstacle detection in autonomous cars is nothing but an artificially intelligent system, it predicts the type of obstacle present in the frame.

This feature is developed by training the system with huge amount of data, the ‘data’ here refers to the previous inputs and their corresponding outputs. When the system is trained with good amount of data, prediction of the system is also accurate. Accuracy increases with the increase in training data.

How are they related?

I would like to relate Hindu astrology to some kind of artificially intelligent algorithm that predicts the future or events that occur in a person’s life. Birth star and advent of planets in their Zodiac sign is the timeline of a human’s life. Since they were immortal with respect to humans it was used as point of reference to address the whole human race. The astrologers started observing people’s lives and after a brief period of time, with numerous calculations and testing they came up with the an algorithm which is the present day Hindu Astrology. So training data here refers to many situations experienced by people in a given timeline born on certain day or time.

There are many critics about this but, there is no system in this world that is 100% accurate, and not that of created by humans. Even the modern day artificial intelligent systems do have some drawbacks. So instead of criticizing it we should appreciate their efforts in this field.
